aristocrat, gothic and lolita, last man to die, sewing

Shiro-Lolita-Mad-Scientist-Steampunk-Aristocrat?

So Charles and his theatre group “Last Man To Die” have asked me to make costumes for their upcoming show.  This is mega-excitement times.

There are three people in “Last Friend To Die” I have to make costumes for: Charles (Music), Ben (Video), and Hanna (Actor).  Hanna has given me drawings of her vision for the costumes.  They are all white and all use a modified lab coat.  The boys are wearing Lab-Tailcoats and Lab-Waistcoats and white pants, and Hanna is wearing a Lab-Dress and Lab-Three-Tiered-Underskirt.  This is so up my alley it’s ridiculous.  It is my ENTIRE ALLEY.
I think their show is also going to be called “Last Friend To Fry” and is about, you know, life. Death.  Robots.  Dream sequences.  Masks.  Coffee machines.
Yesterday we bought the lab coats.  THIS IS FANTASTIC.
Tomorrow I plan to post Hanna’s drawings of the costumes plus any progress pics.  You are going to LOVE it!
Oh and BY THE WAY!  You should check out Gothic Lolita Sewing and Other Amusements.  She was lovely and linked to me PLUS she has a cool blog that I love to read.  OBEY.

OHAI INTANET

Dear Internet,

If you’re reading this I guess you’re still reading this.  You know I like you the best.
So have I been doing any more projects?  Yes, I have actually.  Yes.  Would you like to see my latest skirt?  Gee, only because you’re so darn PUSHY about it.  And STOP POKING ME WITH A STICK!
I cut my head off in the photo because it was wrapped in a towel.  You ALL needed to know that.
With all due respect (how much respect does the Internet deserve anyway?  There’s lots of unrespectable stuff on the Internet.)

Day 38

I know just the thing you need, boys – another skirt!!

I cut off my head in the photo because I looked like a FREAK.
This skirt was inspired by something I saw on sew_loli last week.  I had lots of fun taking measurements, making a pattern, and working out how it works.
This flowery material is – another – old sheet.  I love the print.  The sheet was a bit worn in the middle, and there wasn’t much, so some of my panels had to be cut the other way.  Hence, the front of the skirt is thick at the top and thin at the bottom, but the back of the skirt is thick at the bottom and thin at the top!  The plain blue fabric is plain blue fabric.
There was only one hiccough when I sewed it all up and it didn’t fit – that was soon fixed.
This project was really fun.  I’m really happy with the result, too.  I’m going to a morning tea party on Sunday and I plan to wear this.  Yay!
Only two more posts before the end of my (failed) thing a day!  What’s it going to be?  ANOTHER SKIRT MAYBE?
Ahhh ha ha ha ha ha ha HAAAA!

*thunder* *lightning*
Note:  In this picture I’m wearing one of my petticoats.  This one, actually.

Day 36

Woo another skirt!  How many am I going to make?  MILLIONS!

It’s a bit blurry because the photo was taken at NIGHT.
Anyway, this skirt is inspired by this skirt over at Burdastyle.  Except that this one has pockets, not just pretend pockets.  I was helped along a bit by some kind of pattern, but this was mostly my own pattern.  The pockets were hard to do!
It is lined by an old flannelette sheet.  Reduce, re-use, recycle!
I tried to iron some of my hems and the skirt fabric actually melted!  How crazy is that?!?!  Luckily it was only on a tiny bit.  Next time I iron it, I’ll make sure it’s on a low heat!  Next time I make a skirt, I’ll make sure it’s not polyester!
This skirt fits me really well, because I made it with my measurements.  So that is good.  But I sort of wish I hadn’t used such bright contrasting fabric.  It makes it hard to wear.
Oh whoops… I forgot to put buttons on the front.  Oh well!
Hugs!

Day 22

One of my best friends ordered a pendant off my Etsy store!  It’s my first sale (and probably my only sale) so I wanted to show my thanks.  I made her a little pouch to keep the pendant in when it’s not being worn.

It’s made of a wide satin ribbon and trimmed with lace, embroidered with 3 strands of gold thread.  First!
