We were there at YouAreHere

So on Friday the 22nd of March we had a fun Sticks and Tones gig as part of the You Are Here festival.  You Are Here is a fun Canberra arts festival that runs every year around this time.  They have theatre, music, art, dance, writing, poetry, you name it!
Our concert was a lunchtime concert in the old Fletcher Jones building in civic.  Sadly, Fletcher Jones (an Australian clothing company) closed last year. But it left this large shop space which was the You Are Here HQ.  They blacked out the windows and set up a stage and lights, so it was like a real exciting night time gig at a venue!  Here are some photos that people took at the festival (taken from Facebook).

These people with their big zoom lenses only got one of us together!

After us, another great band called Fun Machine played and it was super rad.  We were also interviewed by Woroni (the ANU student newspaper) and the sound file can be found here.  Unfortunately they didn’t get any footage of the actual gig!
We had such a lovely time!  We’ve never had such an appreciative audience, they clapped and whooped the whole time!  We really felt part of the scene and actually popular for the first time ^.^

Sticks and Tones – new YouTube channel!

Announcing the new YouTube channel for Sticks and Tones!
So far we only have one song up, but we hope to put up one per week!

This week – The Humming Bird, by George Hamilton Green.  I’m playing off the Bob Becker arrangement, and Charles is comping from chords we figured out.

All recordings are works in progress and we’ll keep uploading as we improve.  Hope you enjoy!

Please subscribe so you know about new uploads 🙂

Gig at the Yarralumla shops!

Today we had a concert at the Yarralumla shops as part of the Musical Offering! As you can see from the sign behind me.  Then a big gust of wind came and blew it down upon my head and it smote me.
So the guy in charge moved it.  The guy is Don Aitkin who is a Canberra music organising guy.

As well as our ragtime set Charles played a few jazz standards solo, which were super lovely!

What a lovely morning!  We played pretty well, I think!

This is our last performance for the Musical Offering for a while.  Who knows what we’ll do next!

You can see our bio on the Performers page of the Musical Offering website!

DRUMatiX Next Phrase Concert photos

This concert was like three months ago! Better late than never!
All the photos are by the lovely Pete Butz.

This looks like I’m singing but I’m not.  I’m mic testing!

Still mic testing!  You don’t play drum kit with one mallet.

 Rehearsing!

 This might be concert.

I only put up pictures of me and Charles really, because I don’t know how everyone else would feel about being on my blog.  But there were like 10 of us.

Arty shot of mallets and stuff.

The stage setup was pretty massive.  I have never done a concert with so many instruments on stage at once!  It was a fantastic concert.  I hope to do more like this in future!

Sticks and Tones – mini photoshoot and new website!

Today Charles and I wanted to do some photos for our ragtime duo Sticks and Tones.  My dad has been coming up with names for our percussion duo for years and one finally hit the mark!  Apparently there’s ANOTHER Sticks and Tones which is also a percussion family duo, but they’re not in this country so I’m not going to worry about it.

We have some concerts in February and March so we’ve got to get cracking on this stuff!

This is all in our new house.  I really like the Christmas lights as a background, it’s so indie and pretty!

We also have a website!  www.sticksandtones.net

Next thing is to make some demo CDs to sell at gigs.  Also business cards!  Or flyers!  So much to do!
