Korea haul – Snail cream and Syn-ake cream masks!

Recently my lovely husband Charles went to Korea for a conference. He came back with a whole lot of lovely presents for me – mostly sheet masks, since they’re apparently the thing in Korea right now!

First there is a huge pack of sheet masks.  “Baviphat Snail Cure Mask Sheet”

And “Syn-ake” sheet mask.  There were 14 of each!

Look at all that masky goodness!
Next a bunch of single masks that Charles was given randomly.  I’m really looking forward to using the pearl extract one!

My friend Lisa was also at the conference and she sent some sockies home with Charles for me!  They’re so cute, thanks Lisa!

Samples of cleansing stuff and some exciting CC cream!

Lisa also sent me some cute earrings, and a lip crayon and sharpener.  This colour is really beautiful when worn, yay!

Me trying out my SYN-ake cream mask.  SYNAKE is a synthetic substance that mimics some kind of snake venom.  It’s supposed to stop wrinkles by actually paralysing your face muscles so they don’t go into folds.  Not creepy at all!  There are lots of articles online about the uses of snail cream and synake, so go and google!  As for me, it was just a nice sheet mask and I enjoyed it!  I think the snail cream made my face feel nicer and smoother than the synake, but I don’t really know if either did anything.  It’s such fun to try out these things!  Thanks Charles!

Refashioning a big t-shirt

I know there are heaps and heaps of tutorials on how to do this online… but I thought why not add to them!
As you know, I recently went to Sydney to see They Might Be Giants.  I bought a Flood t-shirt (a great album of theirs from 1990) but unfortunately they only had mens size large.  I am not a mens size large you guys!  I bought it with the intention of modifying it (or using it as a sleeping shirt).
It is even too big to sleep in!  I can imagine myself rolling around in it and getting all twisted.  See how huge it is on me?
Let the tutorial commence.
First find a t-shirt that you DO like the fit of.  Just make sure that it doesn’t have raglan sleeves: that is, make sure the sleeves don’t join to the neckline.  This will be important later.
Iron your shirts and fold them in half lengthways.  Put your little t-shirt on top and trace around it.  Fold the sleeves inwards and trace around the curve where your armhole is.
Take away your little t-shirt and pin your big t-shirt so it doesn’t slip around.  Cut around where your drew the outline, through all 4 layers. Make sure you leave a 1.5cm seam allowance!!  Since my t-shirt was super long, I just extended the line to the bottom of the shirt – so it can be either a long shirt or a short dress.
Now open it out and pin up the sides, with the RIGHT SIDES FACING.  If you do it with the wrong sides facing you’ll end up with an inside-out looking tshirt.  Sew up the side seams but don’t sew up the armholes!

Try it on for size.  I was really happy with how this fit so I proceeded.  If you’re not happy, take it in a little more.  If it’s too small, you can still unpick and sew closer to the edges.
 Yay it fits!

Now sleeves.  Take your small t-shirt sleeve and lay it on top of your big one, matching the edges together.  Trace and cut (leaving a seam allowance).

You should get something that looks like this.  Turn them inside out and sew up the shortest edge.
Here’s the hardest bit.  Now turn your sleeve right-side out and your t-shirt inside out.  Put the sleeve INSIDE the t-shirt, matching the side seam of the shirt with the seam you just sewed on the sleeve.  The raw edges should match up.
Pin it in place… it should look like this.  Complicated right?  It takes a few goes before you really understand what’s going on!

Sew around your armholes!  It took me a while to make the sleeves actually fit into the armholes, they kept being too big or small!  I had to adjust the size of the sleeves quite a bit.  But finally it worked!
Yay a dress!  Or a nightie?  I’m not sure if I’ll wear this out but I love it to bits!

Trip to Sydney – They Might Be Giants and Ikea!

Last week on Wednesday Charles and I drove up to Sydney to see our favourite band – They Might Be Giants!  It was a pretty awesome experience.
We stayed at the Adina and were lucky enough to be upgraded from the normal suite to the premium suite, which was practically a house! It was on the 25th floor and had a spectacular view of the harbour.
The concert itself was pretty great, it was immensely crowded and loud!  They played heaps of songs that we love, as well as new songs we’re GOING to love.

I don’t have any pictures because it seems kind of rude to take photos in the middle of a rock concert when there are 1000 people behind you.  I really like John and John and Dan and Dan and Marty.

The next day was ANZAC day, which meant that all the shops were closed until 1pm and there was a really big parade of all the soldiers and bands through the city centre.  We drove out to Newtown to have a look at the shops and then we drove out to IKEA on our way out of town!

We bought five things:

1: Benno TV stand.

2. Frasera whiskey glasses

3. Lack table

4. Pello chair

5. Tisdag lamp
As you can see we went for a white theme.  Our walls are white so it makes sense.  I had never been to an IKEA before and it was a fun experience!  I really enjoyed it.  Plus everything fit into our boot and we managed to set it up that evening with no disasters!

In other news, look at all the tomatoes I harvested from my parents’ garden!  They’re away so I get them all to myself mwahaha
