Sad goodbyes are sad

I’ve been to Perth with Charles for about a week. Now I’m home, and he’s still there. On Monday week he’ll be moving to Sweden directly from Perth. We had such a good time together! Now I’m really sad. I want to hide in my room and not talk to anyone ever again. We haven’t been separated like this in all our 7 years together.
We won’t break up – I’m not scared of breaking up. I just will miss him craploads. It’s going to be a sad time. I have to try to keep doing interesting things without him.
Plan: Visit in December. After that… we’ll see how things pan out.
In other news, The Last Man To Die is going really well in Perth! They (we?) got a great review in the Western Australian – link to the reporter’s blog here.
Perth was super fun! I’d be happy to go to Perth more often (i.e. ever again). It’s not too big, but it has nice trains, friendly people and a thriving arts scene. And it has Charles, for now.
In radder news, The Aquabats are coming to Australia! I want to go! With Reel Big Fish, I’m not sure which one is headlining. This might be almost as cool as when I saw Weird Al! Nah… impossible.

LMTD Photoshoot! Shoop!

LMTD had a photoshoot with my super-best-friend-photographer Rohan.  He is frigging awesome.
Left to right: Bunnjamioh, with his Lab-Waistcoat, Hanna with her Lab-dress and 3-tiered underskirt, and Charles with his lab-tailcoat, handmade cummerbund (!) and cravat (!!).

I’m pretty pleased with the waistcoat.  I got my dad’s one and traced the outline onto the labcoat.  It just looks so neat!  Charles’ tailcoat was based on this one from Black Peace Now, but it is obviously white.

Here you can sort of see the shirring on the back of the dress.  Those are also my shoes!  I didn’t make those.  But they are still FANTASTIC.
I plan to post some more pictures of stuff in detail, like the cummerbund.  Excitement!
If you go to Charles’ blog, you can find out more stuff about the LMTD project *apart* from the costumes!

EXPLOSION!

Yesterday I found out that the costumes for LMTD have to be done by this Wednesday.  Hahahahahaha!

Tonight my sewing machine actually blew up.  The pedal went bang and started smoking.  Luckily Charles was with me so we could work together to quickly unplug it and get it out of the house.  It was… intense.  Intense but really smelly – now we have all the windows in the lounge room open to get the stench out.
On the up side, I only had one hem to sew anyway.  That’s right: everything is finished.  Of course, I don’t know if it’ll fit everyone, but it appears that costumes are not priority: actually writing a production takes precedence.  Whatever!

I’ll post pictures as soon as I take some.  Soon!

Costumes update!

Here’s an update of the labcoat-costumes for Last Thing To Thing!  Plz excuse lame floor pictures, I hope when I’m done I’ll get to take some pictures of the costumes on the actual people.
So here’s Hanna’s labcoat so far.  I unpicked the long sleeves and turned them into puffed sleeves!  The sides are also taken in a bit.  I’ve started shirring the back (the lazy method, not the professional method) but had to stop when the sewing machine needle broke.  There is something seriously wrong with the sewing machine.

So with this coat I’m thinking it might need some darts under the bust.  But I don’t really know how to do that without making it look weird.  Plus there’s a pocket in the way.  Advice from sewers?  Hahahah sewers.  Get it?

Here’s the skirt which will go under the labcoat dress.  Three tiers, each with a different type of lace edging.  This is because I thought 3 metres of lace would be enough, but when it only covered one tier, I had to use some from my stash.  The waist is half-elasticised so it looks neat at the front.  It actually falls pretty nicely when held up.  I took it for Hanna to try it on yesterday and she’s really happy with it ^_^ It’s a winner!
Tonight I hope to finish the shirring on the back of Hanna’s labcoat, and get to work on Charles’ tailcoat-labcoat.  It needs to be cut to size and have darts inserted in the back.
In other news, I cut my own fringe and bought some shoes like these beautiful Victorian Maiden ones.  I’m having a massive happy.

Last Thing To Thing Costume Plan!

As promised!  Here’s the drawing of the costumes that Hanna gave me.

Things I have to make:
Labcoat-waistcoat for Ben
Labcoat over-dress for Hanna
Under skirt for Hanna
Labcoat tailcoat for Charles
Cummerbund for Charles
Cravat for Charles.
I don’t know whether I’m doing a top hat as well –  I’ve never done anything like that.  They’re all providing their own shirts, pants, shoes, etc.
So far I’ve made: Hanna’s underskirt!  And I’ve taken the sleeves off Ben’s labcoat!  WOO PROGRESS!
I’ll post pics as soon as I remember what my camera looks like.  I’ve probably got a photo of it here somewhere.
