Finished! Dr Who Scarf

Finally a blog post about something I made!  Ravelry page here!
This is a Christmas present for my brother.  I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have time to look at my blog so I’m safe.  He also asked for it so I think he’d already have an inkling about it!
My brother (who is quite a bit older than me) loved Dr Who as a kid, especially Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor.
This doctor’s “thing” was his enormous scarf!  Each season it was different.  The scarf I chose to replicate is the one from seasaon 14.  I chose this one because I loved the colour combinations, they seemed the most like Dr Who to me.
There is a website that’s entirely devoted to the scarves of the 4th Doctor, where I got my pattern from.  I found it through Ravelry.  Someone has gone through and counted all the rows in all of the scarves and figured out all the patterns!  It’s incredibly detailed.  Here’s my pattern:

And here’s the finished object!
No loops
One loop around my neck.
Two loops
Three loops!
It’s much bigger than me!  The fringe on the ends is made of all of the colours.  I couldn’t find the exact colours the pattern required, my brown and grey are both too light, and my red is not quite right either.  But I’m so happy with the way it looks, the colours blend beautifully.  Paul had better wear it every day!

Christmas at home!

This year I was celebrating Christmas at home with my mum, dad, brother, and sister-in-law.  It’s so nice having Christmas at home for a change!  The weather gets beautiful and hot and it really feels like Christmas!
My outfit for about half the day.  I got this dress last year in London at Camden Town markets.  Sorry you can’t see my legs, and my hair’s all weird-messy!
Presents under our tiny Christmas tree.  See the Santa sacks?  He’s BEEN!
Closeup of the Christmas cake.  Mum makes the best Christmas cake – mostly fruit.  You can see the cherries peeking out of the icing.  We’re still eating it and it’s so lovely.
Jubes!  A Christmas tradidion at our house.
Santa gave me a little night light in the shape of a birdhouse!  It’s got native superb blue wrens on it.  I think Santa knows I like They Might Be Giants.
My brother and sister-in-law got me this cute handbag!  It’s an owl!  I wore it out today and got a compliment from a complete stranger 🙂 so nice.
 A cute top!
Finally, two darling old ladies at church gave me a coathanger each, independently of each other.  They are lacy, scented, and beautiful, and are both intended for me to hang my wedding dress on.  Now what am I supposed to do?  My dress doesn’t even have sleeves!
So Christmas was lovely at home.  We ate loads of wonderful food cooked with love, played badminton in the backyard for a while, napped, and had a great time together.
I’m about to make the trip over to Europe – to London for a few days and then Oslo and Sweden.  Charles and I are going to be doing some awesome music projects while I’m there!  Please wish me luck on the plane trip 🙂
Thanks for reading 🙂

Christmas Eve

So it’s 11:28pm on Christmas Eve and I only just finished creating and wrapping the last of my Christmas presents. I’ve made *so many things*. Tomorrow I’ll force my family to put on their items and take photos for youse.

There are Christmas beetles EVERYWHERE IN MY HOUSE flying into stuff. It’s like they don’t have eyes.

This evening was Carols on the Lawn at my church. I was going to be playing 3 or 4 carols, and another man was going to play the other 4 or 5. He rang me up this morning saying he’d been in a car crash (!) and was too shaky to play. His car was totaled but somehow (thank goodness) he was unhurt. So I spent all day practicing the songs he was going to play, and ended up playing them all this evening. It was a bit shaky, but it was a casual event and everyone appreciated it. Luckily it was overcast and not too hot. Performing in the hot sucks.
Time for bed, and maybe Santa will visit tonight! Happy Christmas friends!
