Arts and Crafts Show 2014 – Snapshots!

Today I’ve finally got some snapshots from this year’s Arts and Crafts Show at my church.  I personally made about $150 from selling my homemade lemon marmalade and a couple of knitted hats!  I also sold another Dr Who scarf and a crochet blanket!  It was funny, I was actually on the sales desk and was the person to sell the blanket to the buyer, and she was so pleased to meet the maker.  The Show is such a lovely community event!
Notes below each picture!
Christmas cakes!  These are supposed to keep for over 6 months and they looked amazing!

Cute little pincushions made of colourful socks!

A small selection of the silk scarves

Colourful knitting for children

Isn’t this little cardigan adorbs?  I’m thinking of making a big one for myself!

Cute little toys.  I’m sure I had a scarecrow just like this little fellow.

Covered coathangers – always useful!

Super cute felt Christmas decorations – these angels went flying out the door

Some pottery Potato Pots (for making the perfect microwave potato) and muffin pots!

More lovely glazed pottery

Some lovely earrings – I spoke to the lady who made these who explained the process of heating the metal, adding chemicals to get all the colours, then adding more chemicals and doing more heating and cooling…. each earring is different!  It was like alchemy.
This year the Arts and Crafts Show raised around $8000 for charities.  We gave money to some homelessness charities, Companion House (for refugees), Samaritan Fund (a Canberra Hospital charity that provides essentials to people who came to hospital with nothing), Paperworks (a local charity helping the disabled), as well as several others.
As well as craft, there were daily concerts in the church hall where Charles and I played as Sticks and Tones!  There were also billions of choirs and other ensembles.
Next year the Show is on the last weekend in June – the 26th, 27th, and 28th.  Hope to see you there!

Arts and Crafts Show Haul

It was three weeks ago now, but I’ve only just managed to blog about the end of the Arts and Crafts Show!

Here is Sticks and Tones (aka me and charles) playing, and our friend Steve came along and played some drums for us!

Here’s all the stuff I bought!
Almond bread and chocolates, a tea towel and a purse.

Lots of cards I bought. I always buy cards from this lady, and then I use up the cards all year.

A potato pot!  These pots are made of terracotta, and you microwave your potatoes inside them.  They make the potatoes really fluffy and delicious.

Some garden mushrooms, also terracotta.  They look so cute in my garden!

I thought this pin cushion was tricky, it’s for storing your machine needles in little labelled sections!

Crocheted collars

My friend bought a lovely crocheted collar from a super talented designer at Hand Hook Yarn.  It cost her like $60!  But when I looked at it I thought… I could do that!  So she let me have a look at it and I made my own version last night (after two total fails)!  I also found a pattern for a crocheted collar on The Ongoing Project, but it’s also different.
My version is not exactly the same (I couldn’t figure out what she’d done in some places), but it worked out pretty well!  I wore it to uni today and got at least one compliment.  Other people complimented in the way that means “Chrissy why are you wearing such a pink thing”.

It’s actually NOT that bright a pink, the colour came out a bit wrong in this photo.  It’s more of a dusky pink colour.  That’s a brooch I inherited.  I thought a brooch fastener is much more versatile than a button because you can change it!  Obviously!

I’m starting a yellow one.

And this is a red one I made on the bus home.  It’s red, I promise!  Weird lighting playing tricks again.
Me wearing my pink one in the bathroom.

This is what I wore to uni today – my spotty dress.  So maybe the pink collar is too much with this outfit!  Anyhow I’m pretty proud of how it turned out and I think it looks sweet.  I’m going to make this yellow one and then I’ll see what other yarn I have.
If they turn out to be good, I might sell them at the Arts and Crafts show.  We had our first Committee meeting yesterday so I’m looking forward to it already!  How much could I charge for these?

Arts and Crafts

At the end of June I sold some jewellery in my church Arts and Crafts show. I made a bunch of money, which was nice, and here’s some photos of my displays. Not super professional, but whatever. I was under SO much pressure that week, it was RIDICULOUS. Exams, arts and crafts, birthday, music stuff, church strife, guests… it was crazy times. So I’m amazed I got anything in the show at all!

I used some empty picture frames to display my stuff, with fabric-covered cardboard to stick the pins in. It worked pretty well!

As well as selling earrings, necklaces and brooches, I made and sold hair bows. I made quite a few sets. They’re actually really difficult to make, plus I kept getting fond of them. I made about 7 sets, but ended up keeping 3. They work well on bags and cardigans as well as on hair! I’m really getting into these kinds of accessories.
