Completed – O W L S jumper!

Another knitting pattern completed!  I am ON FIRE!

Pattern: o w l s by Kate Davies
Wool: Bendigo Woolen Mills Classic 12ply in Cranberry. I used about 2 balls for the smallest size.
Needles: 6.5 and 6mm circular needles.  Cabling needle (I just used a small DPN).
My project page on Ravelry.

This was a super quick bottom-up knit.  I used 12 ply yarn and 6.5mm needles for most of it, which knits up very rapidly.  Plus most of this jumper is in stocking stitch, on a circular needle, so I could do it in my sleep!

The back and sides have the nice waist shaping.  The arms are knit separately and then joined onto the main needle at the armpits, and then the owls happen.

The owls are done with a nifty cabling pattern.  This is my first time cabling and I think I nailed it!  I’m trying to think of another kind of animal you could do with cabling.

Then I had to sew on their little eyes!  It took me ages to decide what to use.  I literally spent half an hour in the button section at Lincraft! I even considered using googly eyes, lul.
Another new technique was short rows at the back yoke.  This just adds a little more fabric at one section of the round. It worked out fitting pretty well!

 THESE OWLS SO CUTE GUH

Chrissy is pleased with herself.  Now what to knit next?  I thought I’d try knitting this one into a cardigan!  What do you think?

Empties and reviews – January to June 2013!

This is my FIRST EVER empties post!  Most people have monthly empties, but I can’t seem to finish products that fast. So I’ve been saving up my empty products since the beginning of the year.  I only have 9 even after 6 months! After I took these photos, I had a great time throwing all these bottles in the recycling bin!

So, in no particular order, here are my empties!  Links to buy products are at the end.

1. Pond’s Cold Cream

Pond’s Cold Cream is the best makeup remover there is.  It is just a beautiful cream that is magic.  You do need to wash your face with a cleanser afterwards, but for makeup removing it can’t be beaten.  And I’ve tried lots of things!  Luckily my mum bought my a new tub for my birthday last week.  These tubs are huge but I certainly go through them!

2. Simple Clear Skin oil balancing exfoliating wash

This is a pretty average, normal cleanser.  The exfoliating beads didn’t do much for me, they dissolved quickly and didn’t scrub very hard.  A nice cleanser though!  I bought this because I wanted to get some pimples under control, and it does not help with that at all.  I probably won’t buy this one again.

 3. Palgantong Vita White Bb Super Cover

The first BB cream I bought.  I got this in Japan in like 2010, and it is a perfect colour match for my skin.  I’ve never had a product so exactly my colour!  The only probalo is that it makes my face look a bit powdery and dry.  I’m going to experiment with mixing this with moisturiser or a more dewy foundation.  I mostly use this for spots, and it works great. I just bought myself a new one on ebay.

4. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter formula Night Renewal Cream

This is supposed to be anti-aging, but who knows.  I just really like the product as a night time moisturiser.  It’s thick and creamy and feels nice on my face.  The smell is pretty too.  If I put a good dosage of this on at night, my face feels soft and supple in the morning. I’d totally get this again once I’m finished some other stuff.

5. Rosken Bio Serum

This is a cheap knock off of Bio Oil, and I think it’s exactly the same stuff.  Nice as a bedtime moisturiser, but if you wear it in the day it looks weird.  I’m not sure if I’ll keep going with the bio oils.  They’re supposed to reduce scarring (I have quite a bit from pimples on my forehead and around my mouth) but I can’t notice any change.

6. Natio Ageless Lifting Day Cream

I love this moisturiser!  It smells like musk sticks!  It’s a pump action bottle which is nice for hygiene but annoying because you can’t get the last bit out of the bottle.  This is a nice light cream which is absorbed pretty quickly and leaves your face feeling smooth for makeup. I love the feel and the smell.  Mmmm musk sticks.

7. Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque

My Bobbi Brown corrector is that product I can’t live without.  I don’t step out the door without it on my face.  I’m pretty sure this is my second jar, and I’m nearly done with my third already!  Love it.  My only problem is the packaging, it somehow gets bits of fluff in it.

8. Face of Australia Gentle Make-Up remover

Well this does work as a makeup remover, but it’s nothing on the Pond’s.  It’s made of two parts which you shake to mix.  This worked at removing makeup but left my face feeling dry and left with a residue.  I always washed my face after using this.

9. Garnier Roll-On Anti-Dark Circles… stuff.

I put this stuff over my Bobbi Brown to even out the skin tone.  This is more yellowish.  I can’t believe how long this tube lasted me!  I think I got it over two years ago, and used it literally every single day.

Some quick snaps of Arts and Crafts Show!

Our church’s Arts and Crafts Show is on today, tomorrow, and Sunday.  Charles and I are playing as Sticks and Tones tomorrow at 1:30, 2:40, and 3:40 – a 30 minute set each time.
Here are some photos I took last night when we were setting everything up!

 Beautiful knitted capes and scarves!

SO MANY TOYS

Such a little cutie 🙂

I know this is overexposed, but those corrugated iron magpies sell out like hotcakes usually – they’re little garden ornaments.  Cute leather bags too.

One half of a wall of art

A small portion of the jam.

A pretty cool wooden motorcycle!

Gorgeous earrings – cool interesting marbling on the metal.

LOTS of POTS – I checked this lady in, she has done a lot of work

And my favourite with amazing vase and tealight designs.  She imprinted the clay with her grandmother’s doilies to make the designs!

The show starts in 45 minutes from now and goes until 5pm Sunday.  Also it’s my birthday tomorrow!  I’ll be 26!

Nympheas Jumper – COMPLETED!

I’ve finally finished my Nympheas jumper!

Pattern: Nympheas by Susannah Hill
Started: March 5th 2013
Finished: June 13th 2013
Yarn: Bendigo Woolen Mills “Classic” 5ply, in Seaquest
Link to my project page on Ravelry, with further notes.

This jumper is pieced – front, back, arms, and then the neckline is picked up and knitted.  The front and back are worked exactly the same except for the neckline.  Arms are symmetrical.  It was a pretty easy pattern to follow once I worked out the lace pattern.

I made a long-sleeved version of this jumper, instead of the cap sleeves in the pattern.  To do this, I just cast on 34 stitches instead of 58, and gradually increased up my arm.  I was worried they were going to be a little long but they turned out just fine.
The little picot edgings are lovely!

The neckline was a bit of a worry.  Because you don’t decrease, there’s a danger it can flop out.  To solve the problem (mine did flop a bit), I threaded some yarn around the edge on the inside and pulled it slightly tighter.  Now my neckline isn’t stretchy but it doesn’t flop or sag.

There’s a tiny bit of extra bulge near my underarms at the front – don’t know why, and it doesn’t really bother me.  It goes away if I pull it down a bit.

I really need to learn how to join nicely!  I did it in such a rush because I just wanted to wear it!

This jumper is so beautifully fitted!

I’ve literally been wearing this every day since I finished it about ten days ago.  I love it so much!  It goes with so many clothes in my wardrobe and I’m so proud of myself.  This jumper took a long time to make – much longer than my other cardigan – but it’s so worth it.  The wool keeps me nice and warm.  I just love this jumper!!

A nice thing happened the first day I wore this.  I went to the wool shop to get some needles for my next project, and the shop lady complimented me, asked my username on ravelry, and wanted to know the pattern to make it herself!  She like it so much, I was really thrilled 🙂 The knitting community is lovely!

Korea haul – Snail cream and Syn-ake cream masks!

Recently my lovely husband Charles went to Korea for a conference. He came back with a whole lot of lovely presents for me – mostly sheet masks, since they’re apparently the thing in Korea right now!

First there is a huge pack of sheet masks.  “Baviphat Snail Cure Mask Sheet”

And “Syn-ake” sheet mask.  There were 14 of each!

Look at all that masky goodness!
Next a bunch of single masks that Charles was given randomly.  I’m really looking forward to using the pearl extract one!

My friend Lisa was also at the conference and she sent some sockies home with Charles for me!  They’re so cute, thanks Lisa!

Samples of cleansing stuff and some exciting CC cream!

Lisa also sent me some cute earrings, and a lip crayon and sharpener.  This colour is really beautiful when worn, yay!

Me trying out my SYN-ake cream mask.  SYNAKE is a synthetic substance that mimics some kind of snake venom.  It’s supposed to stop wrinkles by actually paralysing your face muscles so they don’t go into folds.  Not creepy at all!  There are lots of articles online about the uses of snail cream and synake, so go and google!  As for me, it was just a nice sheet mask and I enjoyed it!  I think the snail cream made my face feel nicer and smoother than the synake, but I don’t really know if either did anything.  It’s such fun to try out these things!  Thanks Charles!
